UK Sport Environmental Sustainability Strategy

UK Sport's Environmental Sustainability Strategy, sets out a 2026-2030 strategic framework and a long-term ambition to move beyond Net Zero and achieve a Net Positive Environmental Impact by 2040.

Rolling Green supported UK Sport in the development of the strategy, helping shape the core narrative, strategic framework and action plan behind the new approach.

The strategy positions environmental sustainability as central to the future of high-performance sport. Climate change is already affecting athletes, venues, events and training environments — making sustainability a question of performance, resilience and long-term relevance.

At the heart of the strategy is the move from Net Zero to Net Positive Environmental Impact: leaving the environment in a measurably better state through how UK Sport operates, the choices it makes and the influence it has.

The strategy includes commitments to develop a national measurement framework, launch a Net Positive Environmental Impact dashboard, embed sustainability into major event investment decisions, support funded bodies with sustainability action plans, and use the platform of sport to inspire wider action.

The result is a practical framework for UK Sport and its partners — one that recognises that the future of elite sport depends on the conditions that make sport possible.

"Rolling Green helped us move from ambition to a clear strategic framework for action. Their ability to connect sustainability, performance and the influence of sport was invaluable in shaping the next stage of our environmental sustainability work.”

Go The Extra Yard

The Seattle Seahawks, in partnership with Coca-Cola, launched Go The Extra Yard Challenge, a four-week tournament designed to find the Seahawks’ greenest fan.

Fans were invited to sign up at and score green points by completing simple, everyday actions that benefit the planet, from walking or cycling instead of driving, to recycling at Lumen Field, eating a meat-free meal, and cutting energy use at home.

Fans competed for a range of exclusive prizes, including Seahawks game day tickets, pre-game field passes, signed jerseys, gift cards and more.

The Challenge was presented by Coca-Cola, which has a global ambition to help reduce packaging waste by increasing the amount of recycled material in its packaging, and by helping to increase the rate of collection of cans and bottles.

Aluminum Assists

Aluminum Assists is a season-long tournament to find out whether Nuggets or Avs fans are the greenest. Fans can join their team and start scoring green points by completing fun sustainability challenges all season long.

There are dozens of easy ways to score, from choosing aluminum cans and aerosols, to recycling at Ball Arena, carpooling or ridesharing to the game, and joining the famous Recycling Rally.

The more actions they take, the more chances they have to win incredible prizes — including lower-level tickets, swag bags, suite nights, signed jerseys, and more.

Presented by Ball Corporation, Aluminum Assists is brought to life by Christian Braun from the Nuggets and Scott Wedgewood from the Avalanche.

The Green Action League

The Green Action League was a groundbreaking campaign that united four elite sports teams, Arsenal FC, Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Avalanche, in a global movement to turn sports fandom into climate action.

Launched by Ball Corporation, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, the campaign ran for three weeks and engaged over 9,000 fans from 171 countries. Fans earned “Green Points” by recycling, saving energy, eating plant-based meals and other greener living actions. The campaign was promoted through player-led content, in-venue activations, and global media, achieving 14 million impressions.

The results were transformative: over 41,500 verified actions were logged, 95% of participants reported feeling more motivated to live sustainably, and awareness of aluminum recycling increased by 45%. Sky Sports billed it as “the largest fan-led sustainability campaign in sports”.
